Nepenthes is a genus of carnivorous plants, also known as tropical pitcher plants or monkey cups. The ” lid” which does not close, holds a nectar that bugs are attracted to, which then causes the bug to lose its footing, and it falls into the pitcher. The pitcher contains a fluid of the plant’s own production and is used to drown the prey, think of this as the plant’s stomach. The bugs the plant eats are fertilizer for the plants. The major differences between Nepenthes types are the shape/color of the pitcher and sometimes the rate at which it grows.
